A 3–Year Old Boy in Critical Condition After a Dog Bite Incident

A toddler from Ashburton is now in critical condition at Christchurch Hospital after a dog bit him in the throat.

The dog bite incident happened last January 18 while visiting a relative at King St., Ashburton.

According to police reports, the relative’s dog attacked the boy. Based on investigation, the dog tried to get the chocolate that the 3–year old boy was eating and bit the child which caused serious personal injuries to the toddler.

The boy was first taken to Ashburton Hospital for immediate treatment and was later transferred to Christchurch Hospital by the Westpac rescue through a helicopter.

A spokesperson from Christchurch Hospital said that that boy is in critical condition due to the serious injuries he sustained from the incident.

Police officers said that the dog that bit the little boy is huge but its breed was not yet determined. A spokesperson from Ashburton District Council said that the dog was killed right after the incident at the request of the family.

It is very important to take note that all dog breeds can bite since it is embedded in their genes as animals. Dog owners must be responsible enough for dog breeding and ownership. Owners must understand the importance of being well-educated about dog bite laws.

In this case, it is understandable if the boy’s family would not file for any personal injury claim since one of their family members owned the dog. But in some cases, a dog bite victim may immediately contact a Los Angeles injury lawyer, which could be reached by e-mail or by calling their toll – free number.
