Experts Say Children are More Prone to Dog Bites

Experts from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that children have the highest risk for dog bites. Also, they are most possibly to need medical attention from a dog bite incident.

In its statement, the agency claimed that children below the age of 15 account for nearly 60 percent of dog bites, while those between the ages of 5 to 9 years old seem to be the most prone to dog attacks.

Several studies explained three of the major reasons why children are the most prone to dog bites. Here are they:

1.    Children are less perceptive of a dog’s body language and emotions.

According to a 2010 study, two researchers proved that children tend to be less understanding of a dog’s body language and emotions. In fact, out of 372 children aged 8 to 12, only few of them understand a dog’s emotions. The six emotions of dogs tested were joy, submission, threat, attack, fear, and friendliness. Although children obviously understand joy, friendliness, and fear, a dog’s body language signs for submission, attack, and threat were often almost unrecognized.

2.    Children have perceived authority over their family dog.

In a separate study, it revealed that children have a sensed authority over their dog to the point that they are overly confident that the dog will obey them at all times. In many dog bite incidents, the child tries to exert control over the dog. Experts say that the best way to overcome such kind of dog behavior is to develop a healthy relationship with your dog. This way, children could learn from you by example.

3.    Children engage in risky behavior with the dog.

Oftentimes, children become very active and engage in risky behavior with dogs by grabbing them, hitting, or playing with them too harsh. Apparently, it is entirely unintentional but the problem is that dogs completely don’t recognize it. Such problem can be solved by teaching your child how to properly play with your family dog. It is also important to make sure that children are always supervised when pets are around.

Knowledge begins at home, said a Los Angeles injury lawyer. By teaching the children how to properly deal and care for animals, especially for your family dog, is the best way to correct any risky behavior. In that way, your pet can be very responsive to any possible situations as well.

Car Accident Causes Temporary Power Outage in La Habra

A car accident that occurred last Monday morning in La Habra, Orange County, California caused a temporary power outage within the area.

According to news reports, the single car accident happened at around 2 o’clock in the morning, Monday when the car struck down a power pole in the area of Lambert Road and Cypress Street.

The collision had caused power outage within the area according to La Habra police authorities who responded to the area right after they received a report of a vehicle that crashed into a pole.

No injuries have been reported from the said crash. Even the 21-year old driver, Andrew Delos Reyes of Whittier California, did not sustain any personal injury. However, the driver of the said car was arrested on the same day on suspicion of Driving under the Influence (DUI), which authorities suspected as the major factor to the incident.

The power has been restored an hour after the incident. According to Edison spokeswoman Mashi Nyssen, about 3,000 Southern California Edison customers were affected by the power outage. However, some residents claim that their power was not restored. Consequently, Edison is trying to detect and fix the problem, while Nyssen assures the residents that they could expect full power restoration until Wednesday night.

Also, parts of Lambert Road between Euclid St. and Harbor Boulevard are expected to be reopened on Wednesday afternoon once reconstruction has been done.

Anyone who has suffered losses or damages from a car accident may always seek for legal remedies through the help of a Los Angeles injury lawyer. Delos Reyes is still lucky enough that no one was injured from the said car accident. However, he would probably be penalized by either the city or the electric company for the damages that the said accident brought.

Soldier Denies All Allegations over His Ex-Wife and Mother-in-Law’s Wrongful Death

A Fort Campbell soldier who has been formally accused of killing his ex-wife and his mother-in-law denies all the allegations against him in the wrongful death claim filed by his brother-in-law and his two children and is now asking the court for the dismissal of his case.

Brent Burke claimed that he did not kill his ex-wife - Tracy Burke and its mother – Karen Comer.

In 2007, Burke has been charged with criminal case in the fatal shooting of his estranged wife and his mother-in-law at the Comer’s residence in Rineyville, Kentucky and have spent four years in jail.

The Hardin Prosecutor brought the case to a jury twice and both trials ended without a proper and complete verdict. After the last trial attempt, the Army filed charges against him in the murders and court-martial is set to start in February.

The case that was filed by Burke’s brother-in-law in behalf of his two children and the lawsuit is seeking for compensation which is to yet to be determined by a jury.

However, under the Commonwealth of Kentucky, a child is not allowed to bring a civil lawsuit against a parent. Therefore, Burke sees this as a complete defense and an absolute reason for his motion to dismiss the wrongful death claim filed against him.

In such manner, Burke’s brother-in-law and two children should have the best lawyer in town like a Los Angeles injury lawyer which is very much proficient with regards to all types of wrongful death claims.

At present, Burke is detained at the Christian County jail without bond.
