Immigrants’ Votes Put Obama to Win

Recent polls revealed that the strong support of the fastest growing demographic in the United States, the Latin-Americans, had significantly helped Obama win his second-term as U.S. President.

According to Reuters/Ipsos actual Election Day poll, Obama’s support among the said immigrant bloc was nearly 66 percent, which is almost the same percentage that voted for him in the previous election.

Incidentally, immigrants’ support was very important to retain the desired position since his support among white men declined this election to 36 percent from 41 percent way back in 2008, according to a political scientist from the University of Washington, Matt Barreto.

Exerting strong efforts to court the approximately 24 million eligible Latin-American voters eyeing for some good immigration policies was a very good move by Obama.

It could be remembered that last September, Obama admitted that his biggest failure was the insufficiency of comprehensive immigration reform, although his administration had just launched a federal program called the ‘Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals’ last June.

The program allows young illegal immigrants to apply for temporary work permits and gives them temporary relief from deportation under certain terms and conditions.

In fact, in line with the said program, the State of California recently approved a bill allowing young undocumented immigrants who qualify for the Obama program to secure a driver’s license, giving them a chance to drive and get car insurance in the state.

Consequently, Obama’s stance not only among immigrants but also among the overall voters’ great interests increased upon his hard efforts.

Latin-Americans account for more than half of the U.S. population growth as revealed by the 2010 census data. In fact, the demographic in the South increased by 57 percent between 2000 and 2010, which is four times the population growth of that Republican region.

Unfortunately for Obama’s Republican challenger, Mitt Romney, he had taken a hard hit from illegal immigrants when he claimed that the latter should be deported from the country before making a bid for citizenship. Therefore, he substantially lost votes among those whom he referred to as ‘aliens.’

Now, as a sign of courtesy to immigrants who helped place him in his second term of presidency, during his victory speech, President Obama announced that fixing the immigration system was among his top priorities in his next incumbency.

Meanwhile, a car accident attorney in Los Angeles commends the re-elected president for his wise move in paying attention to what his political opponent might have overlooked during the campaign period—to give great opportunities to immigrants.

Many New Luxury Cars Failed to Pass Car Accident Test

In a new car accident test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, it found out that most luxury cars may not be able to provide protection from severe injuries to its passengers during vehicle accidents.

The insurance group revealed that only three out of eleven high-end vehicles from the 2012 model year passed the new car accident test, which focused at front-corner impacts since front-corner is often not well protected by vehicles’ crush zone structures.

Incidentally, crash zone structures are already available in modern vehicles. However, the same is only better in protecting passengers from direct collision from the front; therefore, the insurance group is calling for a better safety gear.

Meanwhile, automakers that earned poor rating in the test include BMW, Mercedes, and Lexus.

The rating was derived from a test that simulated what happens as the front corner of a car hits another vehicle or a solid object like a tree or a pole. In the said crash test, the insurance group rammed 25 percent of a car’s front-end on the driver’s side into a 5-foot high rigid barrier at a speed of 40mph.

Meanwhile, the insurance group plans to incorporate the same in tests of other vehicles.

The fact here is that if luxury vehicles are failing at a high level, it is possible that most cars will not likely perform well, according to Consumer Reports’ auto testing program director, David Champion.

Champion speculated that it will take five to ten years more before automakers finally figure out how to perform best in the crash test.

During the recent crash test, both the Acura TL and Volvo S60 earned good ratings, while the Infiniti G was rated as acceptable. On the other hand, Audi’s A4, Lexus ES350, Lexus IS 250/350, and Mercedes Benz C-Class received poor ratings.

The insurance group anticipates that the new rating program will address the problem of small overlap car accidents.

A Los Angeles auto accident attorney agrees with the insurance group when the latter said that the automakers could possibly provide more effective protection by designing the passenger safety cage to avoid front-corner impacts, which could result to serious leg and foot injuries.

4 Mothers Going for a Mother’s Day Night Out Killed in Tragic Car Crash

Four mothers were killed in a tragic vehicle accident Sunday while they were traveling for a mother’s day night out.

Based on the initial investigation, the vehicle that the women were riding was traveling at a high speed when it crashed into a cement support column that holds up the elevated Green Line tracks in 4800 block of Lake. The car split into two.

Authorities tried to revive the four by transporting them to Mount Sinai hospital but they were pronounced dead at the hospital.

A mother in another vehicle told the police that they were about to meet the four at a downtown night club when the accident occurred.

The mothers involved in the crash were identified as Tyshyra Hines, 21, Alicia Goston, 22, Bernadette Harris, 25, and Ieshia Nelson, 21, all resident of 1200  block of North Lockwood.

Police did not mention who was driving the car, but relatives of the women believed that Nelson was driving the car when the accident occurred. According to the women’s relatives, the mothers were close friends who all lived in one neighborhood.

The mothers left six innocent children. Authorities were informed that Tyshyra was a single mom to a 4-year-old girl, Harris was a mother of three, Nelson was a mother of a 2-year-old boy, while Goston had a 2-year-old son.

Apparently, over speeding was a main factor in the said mother’s day car accident. A supposed to be an enjoyable mother’s day celebration turned to be a horrific tragedy for the four moms.

In such cases of car accident, chances of recovery seem close to impossible particularly if the investigation found out that the main cause of the accident was over speeding. Even a Los Angeles auto accident attorney can attest to that.
