Car Accident Causes Temporary Power Outage in La Habra

A car accident that occurred last Monday morning in La Habra, Orange County, California caused a temporary power outage within the area.

According to news reports, the single car accident happened at around 2 o’clock in the morning, Monday when the car struck down a power pole in the area of Lambert Road and Cypress Street.

The collision had caused power outage within the area according to La Habra police authorities who responded to the area right after they received a report of a vehicle that crashed into a pole.

No injuries have been reported from the said crash. Even the 21-year old driver, Andrew Delos Reyes of Whittier California, did not sustain any personal injury. However, the driver of the said car was arrested on the same day on suspicion of Driving under the Influence (DUI), which authorities suspected as the major factor to the incident.

The power has been restored an hour after the incident. According to Edison spokeswoman Mashi Nyssen, about 3,000 Southern California Edison customers were affected by the power outage. However, some residents claim that their power was not restored. Consequently, Edison is trying to detect and fix the problem, while Nyssen assures the residents that they could expect full power restoration until Wednesday night.

Also, parts of Lambert Road between Euclid St. and Harbor Boulevard are expected to be reopened on Wednesday afternoon once reconstruction has been done.

Anyone who has suffered losses or damages from a car accident may always seek for legal remedies through the help of a Los Angeles injury lawyer. Delos Reyes is still lucky enough that no one was injured from the said car accident. However, he would probably be penalized by either the city or the electric company for the damages that the said accident brought.

Hot Weather Seen as a Factor that Increases Risk of Dog Bite Incidents

While a lot of people are enjoying the warm temperature brought by the hot summer days, postmen are feeling the opposite way around since warmer weather puts their life at risk.

During warmer weather, postmen become more prone to dog bite incidents as dogs roam more outside during these days.

Salisbury’s acting Postmaster, Ellen Hebert, affirmed that as the weather gets warmer, the risk of their postmen being involved in a dog bite incident increases. In fact, their office had already received a couple of dog bite incident reports since the end of the previous year though it was not yet the warmest of the season.

Also, in some neighboring office, a similar trend was seen, according to North Carolina Post Office safety manager, Stephanie Harris. Harris testified that since October, the number of dog bite incident reports in their office more than tripled compared to previous years.

Definitely, said incidents during hot summer days have something to do with the dogs’ behavior during such weather. Probably, like most people, dogs love to stay outside to get some fresh air. Moreover, it is usual for dogs to protect their owners, as well as their territories.

To avoid such incidents of dog bites, the office of the Postal Service is conducting a seminar for their employees, particularly for the postmen, to increase their awareness on how they could protect themselves from dogs. Also, the Postal Service officials are encouraging the people within the community as well to help them protect mail carriers.

The Postal Service advised the homeowners to ensure that their doors are locked and secured during hours of mail delivery. Furthermore, if the homeowner is expecting a package or a mail, it’s best to always keep an eye on their dogs.

The National Dog Bite Prevention Week, which was also recognized by the Postal Service, is held each May. Said annual event provides tips and information regarding dog bite and other animal attacks, as well as responsible pet ownership.

Always keep in mind that biting is in the usual nature of all breeds of dog. To reduce the number of dog bite incidents not only among postmen but also among other civilians, dog owners must be responsible enough to shelter their dogs properly. Public education regarding responsible dog ownership and breeding and dog bite law enforcement are the most effective ways of pushing for responsible dog ownership.

Driver Killed in a Watery Truck Accident in Los Angeles

A 30-year-old driver was killed in a recent truck accident in a bridge, a mile far from Bull Run Road in Los Angeles.

According to police report, an eighteen (18) wheeler truck slid off in a narrow wooden bridge and subsequently fell into a canal as it was shifting its pipe load.

Authorities said the accident happened at around 8:20 in the morning in a property owned and managed by Brammer Engineering Inc.

The truck driver, identified as Otto F. Tello from Channelview, Texas, was declared dead right at the accident scene. Divers had to pull the driver’s body from the submerged truck.

Tello was the only occupant of the truck when the incident happened. He worked under New Energy Transport, a Houston-based Transport Company. He was bounded to Brammer’s Engineering when the drilling pipes that the truck was hauling slid backward and caused an imbalanced momentum which pulled the truck onto the canal.

The truck remained in the murky water until Monday while the pipes are being inspected by the authorities for damages.

The New Energy Transport refused to provide any comment regarding the incident.

Trucks are considered the biggest bully on the road way. Truck accidents are actually one of the most disturbing accidents on the road. Chances of fatality in truck accidents are higher than any other vehicles due to the extra heavy weight of a truck which greatly affects its momentum.

Just like any other vehicle accident, truck accidents can be consulted to a truck accident attorney. Apparently, in Tello’s case, the 8-wheeler truck lost its momentum due to its extra-heavy load. Thus, Tello’s family has all the legal rights for a compensation claim regarding his untimely death.

Government Takes Over Trains after a Recent Worst Train Accident

The Argentine government recently announced that it will temporarily take over the commuter rail operator Trenes de Buenos Aires (TBA) in the middle of the rough criticism of relatives of the victims from one of the worst train accidents in Argentina which happened last February 22.

According to a government decree, officials will take administrative technical and operational control to TBA to ensure the safety of riders.

The recent crash killed 51 people and injured more than 600 morning commuters going to work. Said accident is considered the worst train accident in Argentina since the February 1, 1970 crash which killed 200 people.

The intervention is expected to last for 15 days or longer depending on the completion of the judicial investigation determining the responsible for the tragic rail accident.

According to the initial investigation, the 8-car train from the suburb of Moreno bound to Buenos Aires struck into a barrier at the end of the platform of Once Station, one of the busiest stations in Buenos Aires.

Due to the said incident, issues about unsecure nature of commuter rail, political negligence, and the lack of state control over the management of TBA have been raised.

TBA is owned and managed by Cirigliano brothers who control the most powerful transportation groups in the area.

The decision to take over TBA came after a harsh criticism of the current administration by families of the victims and other state leaders.

At present, the main cause of the accident is still undetermined. However, proper safety measures are already being taken, according to Planning Minister Julio De Vido. Also, investigation is currently in progress and is now focused on mechanical conditions on board the train and on the actions of the 28-year old train driver, Marcos Antonio Cordoba.

Said train operator is still at the hospital for the serious personal injuries he sustained, but authorities assured that he will remain hand-cuffed during his stay in the hospital.

Trains are extremely dangerous more than any other vehicle because of the train’s inability to stop in an instant and stay on its track when colliding with another object. Therefore, though train accidents rarely occur, its impact is almost always guaranteed to be catastrophic.

Authorities Remind Motorists to Avoid Using Hand Held Devices after Fatal Vehicle Accident

Police officers are again reminding motorists to avoid using hand held devices, particularly mobile phones, while driving to avoid further vehicle accidents.

After the guilty plea of a Newport Coast woman last Tuesday, the Newport Police Department issued a statement reminding motorists not to text and drive.

Danae Marie Miller was involved in a vehicle accident that occurred last February, 2011 and was sentenced to 4-year state imprisonment after pleading guilty for the death of a former Olympics athlete, Amine Britel.

It appeared from police investigation that Miller has been distracted from her driving mainly due to her texting and intoxication. Miller’s vehicle struck and consequently killed Britel, who was cycling along San Joaquin Hills Road.
Miller admitted her fault and pleaded guilty of the charges against her.

Police spokeswoman, Kathy Lowe said in an e-mail that driver distractions are among the leading causes of fatal vehicle accidents. Oftentimes, momentary distractions such as reading or sending text messages can lead to fatal consequences.

Lowe also noted that under California Law, the use of hand held devices while driving a vehicle is illegal. Also, drivers under the age of 18 may not use cell phone while driving

Statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) shows that texting brings a vehicle accident risk that is 23 times worse than driving without distraction, while sending or receiving text message takes an average of 4.6 seconds when drivers take their eyes off the road.

Apparently, drivers who use hand held devices are four times more likely to be involved in fatal vehicle accidents, according to a police statement.

Every year, there is a statewide Distracted Driver’s Awareness Month campaign held and this year, it will be on April wherein the Newport Beach Police Department plans to participate.

All injuries from a vehicle accident can be subjected to so-called personal injury claims, as mandated by federal laws. However, it is still best to avoid such injuries and claims through proper safety measures. Motorists should be fully aware of a more comprehensive safety precautions while on the road. Therefore, vehicle accidents, injuries, vehicle accident lawyer fees, and other grief related matters can be avoided.
